Melodia principal do musical Don Quijote de la Mancha, música de Mitch Leigh, letra de Joe Darion, e libreto de Dale Wasserman, Um sonho impossível se tornou um dos mais conhecidos ícones da história do musical americano na Broadway, cuja estréia ocorreu em novembro de 1965,com Richard Kiley imortalizando o papel título. A longa carreira do musical se estendeu até 1971, e off Broadway, até 2002. Em 1979, vivendo na Filadelfia, Pennsylvania, pude assistir na Opera House da histórica cidade, a Ouro Preto deles, no seu papel pela independência americana, o mesmo e envelhecido Richard Kiley , ainda com a voz soberba.Cansado, nas cenas de luta, de complicadas coreografias, era substituido por outro ator.

Essa música é muito bonita.
Há uma versão de tom Jobim na propaganda da Vale, antiga vale do Rio doce. Tal versão é mais bonita, na minha opinião.
